Welcome to Pham Thi Diep Giang

Pham Thi Diep Giang is a Vietnamese curator, writer, and art collector based in Milan, Italy. She is the founder of Zanga Arts Space and Tathata Space, two independent art institutions in Buon Ma Thuot, Daklak, Vietnam. Her work promotes Vietnamese contemporary art globally while introducing international art knowledge to Vietnamese audiences. Giang also utilizes her institutions as educational platforms to empower local artists and art lovers, fostering a deeper understanding of art and cultural exchange.

Writings

Giang’s writings offer insights into curation and curatorship from a global perspective, reflecting on Vietnam’s contemporary context to deepen the understanding of Vietnamese audiences in the field. With over two decades of experience in collecting art in Vietnam and Asia, her work bridges local practices with international frameworks, providing valuable perspectives. Through her honest and thoughtful reflections, Giang invites Vietnamese artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts to engage in a broader exploration of art. By fostering an expanded view of artistic practices, her contributions encourage the Vietnamese art community to participate actively in a global dialogue, enriching their appreciation and understanding of art’s diverse forms and narratives.

Art Curation

Giang’s curatorial practices revolve around three key themes. First, she focuses on selecting and evaluating Vietnamese contemporary artists whose practices contribute to the historical narrative of Vietnam’s art while fostering decolonial connections with global art movements. Second, she manages and develops the Zanga Arts Space Collection, which comprises three sections: Vietnam contemporary art; Ly - Tran - Le Dynasty (11th-15th century) ceramics; and Asian contemporary art using traditional materials and methods like paper, ceramics, and silk. Finally, her curatorial projects double as educational tools, empowering local artists and audiences to deepen their understanding of art and its cultural significance.

Art collecting

Pham Thi Diep Giang’s art collecting practice emphasizes Vietnam contemporary art, antique ceramics from Vietnam’s Ly, Tran, and Le dynasties, and Asian contemporary art created with traditional materials like paper, ceramics, and silk. Her collection serves as a tool for decolonizing art practices by reclaiming cultural narratives and highlighting indigenous techniques. By bridging Vietnam’s artistic heritage with contemporary expressions, Giang fosters a dialogue between tradition and innovation, contributing to a global understanding of Vietnam’s unique artistic legacy and its place in decolonial art discourse.
